The first few weeks of 2024 has seen what MoffettNathanson senior analysts Rob Fishman and Mike Morton call “an unflinching onslaught of major U.S. media industry news that has already given us a few gray hairs just trying to keep up.”
Among those big stories is the January 17 announcement that Diamond Sports Group will live on and emerge from bankruptcy with a partnership — and hundreds of millions of dollars — from Amazon. “What happens to local sports rights given the collapse of the RSN model is one of the key unanswered questions of the current media landscape,” they write.
But, has this “collapse” been prevented, or is it inevitable?
