For the second year, radio will be included as a category in the Arbitron-sponsored Association of National Advertiser’s 10th Annual Multicultural Excellence Awards competition. This category recognizes the best work in the Hispanic, African-American and Asian categories for reaching multicultural consumers through radio.

The deadline for entries is 8/30. Entries are open to both client-side marketers and advertising agencies. For more info, go to http://multiawards.ana.net/. Award recipients will be recognized during a ceremony sponsored by Arbitron during the 12th ANA Multicultural Marketing & Diversity Conference, November 7-9, at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Resort in Miami.

2009 was the first year that radio was included as a new category highlighting exceptional work in radio advertising. The team of Comcast and Grupo Gallegos took home grand prize honors. Honorable mention designations were captured by the team of McDonald’s and Burrell Communications and Walmart and Lopez Negrete respectively.

“Spanish radio is a strong channel which delivers mass, efficient reach of Hispanics. Spanish music is an important touch point to building cultural relevance with Latinos across various acculturation levels and countries of origin,” said Jim Irvine, Senior Director of Media Strategies at Lopez Negrete Communications.
