Apartment Fire Above WMMX Studio Causes A Commotion

“If Jeff Stevens doesn’t start his show with ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire’ tomorrow, I’ve failed at my job,”  Keith Kennedy, a morning personality at WKDD-FM in Akron, posted on Instagram alongside an image of the WMMX-FM “MIX 107.7” in Dayton broadcast studio — slightly compromised by an apparent fire in a residential unit directly above the iHeartMedia-owned Adult Contemporary station.

Alas, a Lady Gaga song kicked off the Mix Morning Show on Friday, as Jeff, Kristi & Dave moved past a morning on June 12 in which water started flooding the studio. That was one consequence of a fire that broke out in an apartment above. “Luckily, everyone got out before the ceiling dropped and everyone is okay,” Kennedy shared on social media.

While listeners heard the trio of hosts as regularly scheduled, a temporary studio was set up for MIX 107.7 in the Dayton Arcade.

WMMX, along with the other iHeartMedia stations, recently moved from their longtime home in the Oregon District, at 101 Pine Street, to a second-floor suite at 31 S. Main Street, in the heart of a reinvigorated downtown Dayton. It is believed that the recently opened Studio A is a total loss.

According to the Dayton Daily News, popular restaurant Table 33 also suffered damage to its formal dining room, while the third-floor apartment fire was “small.”

WMMX is a station that launched under the leadership of Radio Ink and Radio + Television Business Report President/Publisher Deborah Parenti.
