WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Congressional legislative body that maintains oversight of the FCC has reconstituted its Democratic membership, and among the new faces on the House Energy & Commerce Committee in the minority is one of the more polarizing figures in U.S. politics — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez, who represents a portion of the South Bronx and an area of Queens due west of LaGuardia Airport, is one of seven colleagues recommended for appointment by the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
She’s joined by the following Members:
- Rep. Jake Auchincloss (MA-04)
- Rep. Troy Carter (LA-02)
- Rep. Rob Menendez (NJ-08)
- Rep. Kevin Mullin (CA-15)
- Rep. Greg Landsman (OH-01)
- Rep. Jennifer McClellan (VA-04)
The Energy and Commerce Committee is the oldest continuous standing committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. It was established in 1795 to regulate interstate and foreign commerce, and added broadcast media in the 1930s.
For the Democrats, the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Ranking Member remains New Jersey Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. He congratulated the eight colleagues in the House on their appointment. “As we prepare for a second Trump Administration, we have a fantastic roster of Democratic members who will fight to lower everyday costs for American families, grow our economy, protect consumers, and lead the clean energy transition,” Pallone said. “I look forward to working closely with each of them to deliver for the American people, protect the progress we’ve made, and hold the incoming Trump Administration accountable.”
