Another Quiet Day, Featuring STAs And A Closing

In what is becoming more common than ever, no new transactions appeared in the FCC’s CDBS database on Thursday (9/5).

As such, TRANSACTIONS TODAY is offering details on a STA request involving a Phoenix AM, two Florida facilities, and a LPFM in Massachusetts.

In the first of our STA offerings, we turn to Class D KASA-AM 1540 in Phoenix, licensed to KASA Radio Hogar. The licensee seeks an STA so it can operate the station with a long wire antenna while its three towers are torn down.

Why is that happening? A sale of the tower site at S. 15th Avenue and Baseline Road — on the north side of famed South Mountain — is in progress. A new tower site is in the works for KASA.

Three facilities are requesting silent STAs:

• WJTK-FM 96.5 in Columbia City, Fla. As TRANSACTIONS TODAY reported August 14, WJTK is being transferred from receiver Mark C. Healy to Dockins Communications. As such, the station will go dark until closing.
• W272DH, at 102.3 MHz in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. It has been rebroadcasting WLGM-LPFM 93.9 MHz, licensed to Edgewater, Fla., however interference issues led the translator to silence itself. The lone full-power station at this frequency within 100 miles is WXUS-FM in Dunellon, a JVC Broadcasting-owned station serving the Gainesville-Ocala market. The translator is licensed to Richard Van Zandt.
• Site problems and issues regarding staff led M&M Community Development/Oak Bluffs to file a Silent STA request for WYOB-LPFM 105.5 in Oak Bluffs, Mass.
