In January 2022, the Media Bureau of the FCC determined that a television station licensed to Opelika, Ala., offering content from diginets THISTV and NBCLX, should be given “must carry” status for the Atlanta DMA. The station’s owner argued that this status was enforceable, and applied to DirecTV.
Then, in April 2024, in a dispute against Dish, the Senior Deputy Chief of the Policy Division sided with the station owner, giving the station owner a win.
Now, in a decision some may believe is politically motivated, the FCC has negated that decision, siding with the direct broadcast satellite service provider in a battle that has resurfaced once again.
