It was the market’s affiliate for The WB Network from 1998-2006 and served as the home of the UPN Network for the following two years.
Now, this station, branded as “The Point,” is pointing to a new future rooted in its past, as it is poised to become the new home of The CW Network in Pittsburgh.
This marks a shift from a loose affiliation with MyNetwork TV for WPNT-22, owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group.
The move from WPCW-19 was expected, as CBS News and Stations announced earlier this year that it would be ending affiliations with the CW, today majority-owned by Nexstar Media Group.
WPCW has been an affiliate of The CW since September 2006.
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the switch to The CW for WPNT comes on September 1, 2023.
What’s next for WPCW was not immediately known.
