‘American Idol’ w/ “GLEE’ a Fox dominator Tuesday night

FOX had the No. 1 and No. 2 programs of the night with AMERICAN IDOL and GLEE as it won the night among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.  In fact, FOX outperformed its nearest competition for the night by +103% among Adults 18-49 (5.9/16 vs. 2.9/8 for CBS), +152% among Adults 18-34 (5.3/16 vs. 2.1/6 for NBC), +236% among Teens (3.7/13 vs. 1.1/4 for CBS and NBC) and +8% in Total Viewers (15.7 vs. 14.5 for CBS).


The Top 6 on AMERICAN IDOL posted a 6.6/19 among Adults 18-49 and dominated its 8p hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.  AMERICAN IDOL will likely see a tenth or two growth in the finals, and even now is on par with last week among Adults 18-49 (6.6/19 vs. 6.9/20).

In the 8p hour AMERICAN IDOL showed advantages over its nearest competitors of +94% among Adults 18-49 (6.6/19 vs. 3.4/10 for CBS), +121% among Adults 18-34 (5.3/17 vs. 2.4/8 for CBS), +208% among Teens (3.7/13 vs. 1.2/4 for CBS) and +18% in Total Viewers (18.8 vs. 15.9 Mil for CBS.)

So far this season, AMERICAN IDOL’s Most Current ratings vs. the comparable Most Current weeks last year show 91% retention among Adults 18-49 (8.9/23 vs. 9.8/24), 91% among Adults 18-34 (7.4/22 vs. 8.1/23), 95% among Teens (6.2/20 vs. 6.5/21) and 93% in Total Viewers (24.4 vs. 26.3 Mil.)

Week three of GLEE’s return posted a 5.3/14 among Adults 18-49 the same as last week.  GLEE tied as its second highest-rated telecast to date among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 and is the highest rated new scripted series of the season among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.  GLEE was the highest rated program of the night among Adults 18-34 and Teens (both tied with American Idol) and was the highest rated program of the night among Women 18-34.

So far this spring GLEE has outperformed its prior season originals average (Wed 9p) by +64% among Adults 18-49 (5.4/14 vs. 3.3/9), +53% among Adults 18-34 (5.5/16 vs. 3.6/11), +63% among Teens (3.9/13 vs. 2.4/9) and +79% among Total Viewers (13.1 vs. 7.3 Mil.)  In head to head competition in the 9p hour, GLEE outperformed its nearest competitors by +66% among Adults 18-49 (5.3/14 vs. 3.2/8 for CBS and NBC), +130% among Adults A18-34 (5.3/15 vs. 2.3/7 for NBC) and +147% among Teens (3.7/12 vs. 1.5/5 for NBC).

Competition

ABC’s Dancing With The Stars results show (2.3/7) once again posted an original series low (excluding recaps), dropping -15% from its average this spring (2.7/8).  Following a Lost repeat (1.8/5) at 9p, V (1.9/5) delivered its lowest rating to date (excluding clip shows), falling -21% from its prior Tuesday average (2.4/7).

CBS’ NCIS (3.4/10) delivered its lowest original of the season, down -21% from its average with first-run episodes (4.3/12).  NCIS: LA (3.2/8) was also below its original season average (3.6/9) and The Good Wife (2.2/6) posted its lowest first-run episode ever, dropping -21% from its 2009/10 original average (2.8/8).

NBC’s The Biggest Loser 9 (2.8/7) tied its lowest original rating of the season, falling -18% from its spring average (3.4/9).  New drama Parenthood (2.4/7) was also low.
On the CW, 90210 (0.7/2) matched its lowest original episode ever.  At 9p, Life Unexpected (0.4/1) was a repeat.
