Allen Media Welcomes TelevisaUnivision Vet For Sales Role

LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. — The Byron Allen-controlled Allen Media Group (AMG) has lured a former TelevisaUnivision ad sales veteran to serve as its Chief Revenue Officer of Advertising Sales. It puts him in a key role for all of AMG’s assets — including owned-and-operated broadcast TV stations that will soon be under different ownership.

Taking the post at AMG is John Kozack, who since August 2003 has been associated with Univision Communications and its successor, TelevisaUnivision, as EVP of Multimedia Sales. He arrived at Univision in August 2003 following a 3 1/2 year run as an account executive at FOX Sports. From fall 1995 through May 2000, he was VP and Group Supervisor for The Media Edge.

The hiring of Kozack means 25-year AMG veteran Darren Galatt will transition to a new role as Chief Operating Officer of Advertising Sales. Galatt had been serving as Chief Revenue Officer since 2020, rising from President of Advertising Sales for Global Syndication, where he oversaw advertising, sponsorships, and new business development.

“In his newly elevated position, Galatt will compliment Kozak’s advertising sales initiatives across the full portfolio of the AMG broadcast television stations, syndicated programming, television networks, live sports, and digital platforms,” AMG said in a Tuesday morning announcement.

At AMG, Kozack will oversee advertising sales, brand sponsorships, and revenue partnerships for the entire portfolio of linear networks, sports, streaming, digital, social, and branded content. As of today, this includes 27 Allen Media Group stations across 21 U.S. markets.

This will eventually change, as Allen in early June confirmed that it had engaged independent investment bank Moelis & Company LLC as its financial advisor to assist his company “in evaluating various financial and strategic alternatives to position AMG for future success and to maximize the value of its assets.”

On August 8, it became known that Gray Media had agreed to purchase the following broadcast stations from AMG in a $171 million transaction:

  • WAAY-TV in Huntsville, Ala.
  • WSIL-TV in Paducah, Ky.-Cape Girardeau, Mo.-Harrisburg, Ill.
  • WEVV-TV in Evansville, Ind.
  • WFFT-TV in Fort Wayne, Ind.
  • WCOV-TV in Montgomery, Ala.
  • KADN-TV in Lafayette, La.
  • WTVA-TV in Columbus, Ga.-Tupelo, Ms.
  • WREX-TV in Rockford, Ill.
  • WTHI-TV in Terre Haute, Ind.
  • WLFI-TV in West Lafayette, Ind.

Closing is anticipated for Q4, based on regulatory approval and waivers of current FCC local ownership rules.

Not included in the Gray Media transaction are Hawaii’s ABC affiliate, KITV-4; NBC affiliate KVOA-4 in Tucson, a former Cordillera Communications property; KIMT-TV in Rochester, Minn.; KEZI-TV in Eugene-Springfield, Ore.; KDRV & KDKF in Ashland-Medford, Ore.; KHSL & KNVN in Chico-Redding, Calif.; WAOW-TV in Wausau, Wisc.; WQOW-TV in Eau Claire, Wisc.; WKOW-TV in Madison, Wisc.; WXOW-TV in La Crosse, Wisc.; KWWL-TV in Waterloo, Iowa; and WJRT-TV in Flint, Mich.

Kozack’s duties will also extend to AMG’s efforts in broadcast syndication, one of its foundational areas of operation; and the ten 24-hour AMG HD cable television networks serving nearly 300 million subscribers: THEWEATHER CHANNEL, PETS.TV, COMEDY.TV, RECIPE.TV, CARS.TV, ES.TV, MYDESTINATION.TV, JUSTICECENTRAL.TV, THEGRIO TELEVISION NETWORK, and HBCU GO.

Furthermore, Kozack will oversee advertising sales, brand sponsorships, and revenue partnerships for HBCU GO SPORTS and AMG’s digital streaming platforms, including LOCAL NOW.

Kozack starts his new role on January 1, 2026, and will be based in New York, reporting directly to Mr. Allen.

“We at Allen Media Group are very excited to have John Kozack bring his extensive ad sales, brand sponsorship, and revenue partnership experience to our global media company,” said Allen. “John’s expertise and relationships will be a great addition to our outstanding executive sales leadership team as we continue the rapid growth of our long-term strategic initiatives.”

Kozack commented, “I am honored to have the opportunity to partner with this excellent organization to help drive additional sales on all platforms.”
