Two years ago, WWFD-AM in Frederick, Md., attracted attention for a novel experiment: all-HD broadcasts of a signal designed for the kHz band.
Now, the FCC, as announced by Chairman Ajit Pai on Oct. 5, will rule on a Report and Order allowing stations to broadcast only with digital AM signals, should they choose to.
With that, two HD Radio AM pioneers shared their respective progress reports to virtual 2020 Radio Show attendees in an afternoon session moderated by NAB VP/Advanced Engineering David Layer.
