Alfredo Plascencia Closes On Sacramento FM Buy

In late February, an application was filed with the FCC for the approval of the transfer of a radio station licensed to Woodland, Calif., serving the Sacramento market, from Results Radio LLC to an operator of Spanish-language radio stations with a large Golden State footprint.

On Tuesday, that company, led by Alfredo Plascencia, completed its purchase.

While broker Kalil & Co. did not release the purchase price for the FM, it is now known.

Lazer Broadcasting Company is now the owner of KCCL-FM 101.5, which had been branded as “K-Hits.”

According to FCC documents, Lazer paid $1.91 million for the station. A 10% deposit was held by Kalil & Co. ahead of closing. Kathleen Victory of Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth served as the legal counsel in the transaction.

Plascencia says the purchase of KCCL is clearly designed to give Hispanic consumers in the capital region of California more access to Spanish-language programming.

“The goal is to continue to expand our coverage area to better serve the community of Sacramento,” Plascencia said.

Lazer owns radio stations across 18 California markets and in Reno, Nev., and in the Sacramento area putting the “Radio Lazer” Regional Mexican network on KCCL is believed to be the final plan of action for Plascencia.

KCCL operates at 101.5 MHz, with 5.7 kW at 328’ HAAT. It best reaches the city of Davis and the western portion of the market. It will be added to a group of stations including regional Mexican “Radio Lazer”-branded KGRB-FM 94.3 in Jackson, Calif., in the Sierra Foothills due southeast of downtown Sacramento; “Radio Lazer” partner KBAA-FM 103.3 in Grass Valley, serving Auburn and communities well to the northeast of Sacramento; and KLMG-FM 97.9 in Esparto, Calif., northwest of Woodland and branded as “Latino.”

As KMJE, the 101.5 MHz signal debuted in August 1996. It traded facilities with KCCL, then at 92.1 MHz, in May 2014 after a transaction between Results Radio and Lotus Communications.

The Seller, Results Radio, is a California-based company headed by Jack Fritz. Results also owns radio stations in Redding, Chico, and Yuba City, California.
