WGN-TV Chicago reports the death of Al Hall, who directed “Bozo” for many of his 40 years at the station. Hall lost a long battle with lung cancer at age 82.

Hall directed the famed Bozo show from 1961 (its second year on the air) to 1966 and returned as producer in 1973. He retired in 2001, the same year that the last Bozo show aired.

While best known for working on Bozo, Hall directed and produced a wide range of programming for WGN, including sports play-by-play, telethons, parade coverage and other special events.
