He was the owner of WRRL-AM and W299CF in Fayetteville, W. Va., near the city of Beckley, and a low-powered COZI TV affiliate serving this small West Virginia market. He was also a 50/50 partner with his wife in the licensee of two unbuilt FM translators in two West Virginia locales.

Now, with the passing of Tommy Syner in December, a son is getting his control of those FM translator CPs.

This is the result of the involuntary transfer of his 50% interest in Montgomery Media Foundation to his widow, Shari Spangler Syner.

But, Shari Syner is assigning that 50% interest in the FM translator CPs to son Zachary Syner immediately upon receiving Commission approval of the transfer of Tommy Syner’s stake in the unbuilt facilities. Syner already holds 50% interest in the CPs.

Thus, Zachary Syner will ultimately hold 100% interest in Facility ID No. 768302 in Lookout, W. Va.; and Facility ID No. 768904 in Pineville, W. Va. Lookout is in Fayette County, across the New River Gorge to the northeast of Beckley. Pineville is on the banks of the windy Guyandotte River to the southwest of Beckley.

Tommy Syner was 56 years old when he passed away on December 3, 2022. “His greatest joy was being able to broadcast high school athletics and town festivals,” his obituary reads.

Serving as the Syner family’s legal counsel is Aaron Shainis of Shainis & Peltzman.
