As of today, the ABC affiliate serving the Triad region of North Carolina is getting its own newscasts at 6pm and 11pm.

It brings Greensboro and Winston Salem “a fresh perspective on local news,” the News Director for the Sinclair Broadcast Group-owned station says.

WXLV-45 on January 18 is bringing local newscasts, with the help of partners from co-owned stations across North Carolina, to viewers for the first time.

“We understand that the Triad community is looking for a fresh perspective on local news,” said Jake Peterson, WXLV’s News Director. “Viewers desire news that is both informative and easy to comprehend — which is why we’ll offer context and perspective with each story.”

High Point, N.C. native Jonathan Weant is coming on board as Chief Meteorologist to head-up the new weather department. “I know the ups and downs of the weather in this area,” Weant said.  “It’s been a childhood dream of mine to work and forecast weather in the Triad.”

WXLV GM Allison Aldridge adds, “Our goal is for viewers to learn something new every time they tune in. We have built a staff that advocates for our community, and we hope to hear from each of our viewers as we grow. We are excited to add another local news voice to our community.”
