A Radioactive Send-Off In Salina

Exactly 11 years ago, thanks to a successful bid in the FCC’s FM Auction No. 27, a Class C3 FM serving the Salina, Kansas area came to life.

Its owner until today is one of the most recognizable figures to have emerged in the radio industry over the last 25 years. He’s now selling the station.

The station being transferred to a new owner is KDJM-FM 101.7, licensed to Lindsborg, Kan.

As such, Radioactive LLC — a company created in the 2000s by Mr. Benjamin Homel through the successful bids for newly created radio stations — is selling the facility.

Homel is the legal name for Randy Michaels, an iconic figure in broadcast media who is a former CEO of Tribune Co., iHeart predecessor Clear Channel Communications, and Jacor Communications.

The buyer is a religious non-profit, Divine Mercy Radio.

An asset purchase agreement was struck July 22, and filed with the FCC one month later.

Radioactive is earning $340,000 from the sale of KDJM, which is currently branded as “Real Country 101.7,” offering a gold-based country and western format.

A $113,400 deposit has been made to Radioactive, delivered to the Dennis Kelly IOLTA Trust Account at PNC Bank.

Dennis J. Kelly is the legal counsel of record for Divine Mercy Radio.

Radioactive LLC is represented by the Law Firm of Melissa J. Repp.

KDJM will be converting to noncommercial status and will become co-owned with KVDM-FM in Hays and KRTT-FM in Great Bend, Kan.

Here’s a deal that’s finger-lickin’ good — at least for Kentucky-based broadcaster Michael Tarter. His company has just acquired ‘KFC from one of the most well-known radio industry figures of the last quarter century. No … it’s not a quick-service restaurant’s local franchise. Still, this deal is all about a local “Icon.”

Surrender: Randy Michaels’ Current Tune

On Aug. 3, 2018, RBR+TVBR reported that the FCC had adopted a hearing designation order pertaining to an FM radio station in north-central Michigan to determine whether the station’s license renewal application should be granted. The station has operated just one day a year since it was initially licensed in 2010, and is owned by Radioactive LLC, led by noted radio industry executive Randy Michaels. There will be no hearing, and here’s why.
