It began life at 104.7 MHz and moved to 104.5 MHz in order to upgrade to 50kw. Now, it’s set to shift back to 104.7 MHz while relocating from the Florida Treasure Coast city of Fort Pierce to a tower just north of downtown West Palm Beach. That upgrade led Midway Broadcasting to sell the longtime R&B FM.
And, it presents an interesting signal-adjacency scenario to Audacy Corp. in southern Palm Beach County, as WFLM-FM is moving to Palm Beach Shores, a community just west of the hip Northwood Village neighborhood of West Palm Beach.
This means WFLM will be city-grade down to the Broward County line; Audacy’s WSFS “104.3 The Shark” in Miramar, Fla., a 100kw FM, has a city-grade signal that extends north to Lake Worth, just miles away from the WFLM tower site it will take.
Whether or not WFLM will cause interference to The Shark won’t be a concern of Midway, led by Alice Lee.
Rather, it is something Dean Freeman may have to contend with, as his JDD Radio LLC is buying WFLM for $3.75 million.
A $187,500 escrow deposit has been made to Rini and O’Neill P.C. A $50,000 post-closing escrow payment will then be made.
Serving as the broker in this transaction is Hadden & Associates, representing Midway Broadcasting.
The buyer is known for his Freeman Injury Law practice.
The seller’s “104.5 The Flame” was at 104.7 MHz from 1994 through 2016, but in Indian River County on a facility with a limited signal, so it could protect WRBQ-FM in Tampa.
