The Radio Pirate of Mattapan is an individual the FCC wants stopped. It’s warned the audio buccaneer’s landlord that they must stop, or will pay the price for the unauthorized FM activity one can hear in a South Boston neighborhood.
Morton Street and Blue Hill Avenue are some of the stops on the T in Mattapan, and in this neighborhood one could tune to 98.9 MHz on May 14, 2024 to hear a local broadcaster.
The problem is there is no station licensed for this frequency, and that led agents from the FCC Enforcement Bureau’s Boston office to report it to Washington. This led Dave Dombrowski, the Bureau’s Region One Director, to send the Notice of Illegal Pirate Radio Broadcasting to the landlord of the building from which the broadcasts were found to have originated from.
The Savannah Avenue building is linked to Darlyne Tarte, and she was sent the letter from the FCC on January 3. As such, she has 10 days to respond or else face fines totaling up to a little more than $2.39 million.
