It was once a Class A FM serving a tiny Colorado town. Today, it holds a Construction Permit for a 12kw Class C2 operation at 7,320 feet above sea level, giving this radio station coverage of such areas as Cortez, Colo.; Montezuma Creek, Utah; much of Farmington, N.M.; and a small portion of Arizona’s Navajo Nation.
That’s likely one big reason Tom Troland and Michael Mallace just acquired the property, in a deal brokered by Kalil & Co.
Troland and Mallace’s Desert Explorer Communication LLC is acquiring KDVK-FM 103.5 in Dove Creek, Colo., from Cochise Media Licenses LLC.
The purchase price is $40,000.
A 10% escrow deposit is being held by Tucson-based Kalil & Co.
The seller’s legal counsel in this matter is Fletcher Heald & Hildreth attorney Steve Lovelady.
Cochise Media Licenses is a Wyoming-based company headed by Ted Tucker.
His tenure as a licensee isn’t the brightest one.
Tucker is a principal in six different licensees of radio stations across the Mountain West. Among these entities is Cochise Media Licenses, which in May 2017 entered into Consent Decrees with the FCC to resolve a matter involving the failure to operate stations in Arizona for more than a handful of days over a period of several years. Several stations were donated as part of that Consent Decree.
Another of Tucker’s entities, also a 50-50 partnership with Jana Tucker, in December 2017 sold a Class C0 facility serving St. George, Utah.
