Paperwork has been filed with the FCC that seeks its approval for a legal settlement that sees 50% ownership in a North Texas AM and FM translator serving Hindi-language audiences go to the other 50/50 partner.
If the Commission says yes, “Radio Caravan” will come under the full ownership of an entity led by Tabbassum Mumtaz.
The agreement sees Mumtaz’s Ampex Brands Texas FM take 100% equity interest in KHSE-AM 700 in Wylie, Tex., a directional Class B facility using no less than 6 towers to reach the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. It is paired with K281CS at 104.1 MHz in McKinney, Tex., a small signal covering Saint Paul, Allen, and Parker with limited coverage of Plano and Richardson. Five other services use the 104.1 MHz within 50 miles of McKinney, including Class C3 KTCG-FM in Sanger, to the northwest of Plano and McKinney.
Transferring its 50% ownership in KHSE and K281CS is Workforce Matters Inc., led by Ravi Cherukuri.
The settlement amount also includes a $100 payment from Ampex, the plaintiff in a lawsuit in which Cherukuri and Workforce Matters are the defendant.
The settlement resolves the legal conflict between the parties and was signed on September 29, 2023, with notarization in Leon County, Fla.
It is not known why the filing was made more than one year later.
