For nearly four decades, he’s enjoyed a career in radio that has resulted in him becoming one of the most listened-to on-air personalities in Southern Nevada. Now, this longtime morning host has revealed that he will retire at the end of October, bringing the “Mike & Carla Morning Show” to its conclusion.

Friday, October 31 will be the final appearance of Mike O’Brian in the wake-up slot at Classic Hits KKLZ-FM 96.3 in Las Vegas, Beasley Media Group station.

Between now and then, KKLZ will air special on-air tributes, invite special guests to salute O’Brian, and air listener memories of his time on the air in the city.

O’Brian has been associated with KKLZ, formerly a Classic Rock station, for decades. He’s also served as Program Director for the station. O’Brian has also worked across town at Classic Rocker KXPT “97.1 The Point,” 1980s-focused Adult Hits KSTJ “Star 102.7,” and from January 1, 1986, was the host of KLUC-FM’s morning show.

Speaking to Streamline Publishing’s Radio Ink in June 2024, O’Brian shared how he was first at KLUC in 1980. He left his first stint at that station in 1983, and upon his return three years later stayed in Las Vegas for the remainder of his career.

In 2025, The Nevada Broadcasters Association honored O’Brian with the “Southern Nevada Lifetime Achievement Award,” recognizing his decades of dedicated service and entertainment on-air.

“Mike is one of those rare broadcasters who truly becomes part of people’s lives,” said Justin Chase, Chief Content Officer of Beasley Media Group. “For close to 40 years, he’s been the voice Las Vegas wakes up to – making us laugh, think, and feel connected. His passion, talent, and heart have made a lasting impact on KKLZ and Las Vegas. We are very grateful for all he’s done.”

O’Brian commented, “Hosting this show has truly been the honor of a lifetime. When I started in radio, I never imagined I’d spend decades waking up with Las Vegas – laughing with our listeners, sharing stories, and being part of their daily lives. I’m humbled by the recognition and deeply grateful for the memories. I’d like to thank Carla, my KKLZ family, and the Beasleys for an incredible journey – one filled with joy, laughter, and connections I’ll treasure forever.”

Longtime co-host Carla Rea added, “Working with Mike has been the highlight of my career. He’s more than a co-host — he’s a partner and a dear friend. I couldn’t be happier for him as he begins this next chapter, and I know our listeners feel the same!”

A Beasley spokesperson tells RBR+TVBR that Ms. Rea will continue in mornings, solo.
