These days, the allure of a Class D daytime-only AM radio station is about as enticing as a pickle Popsicle. However, the interest level for one facility that fits this description attracted one buyer with money to spend.
In Houston, an AM that must protect a Class A facility in Oklahoma City is just the right acquisition target for El Sembrador Ministries.
Now headed by President Noel Diaz, El Sembrador has struck a deal to acquire KYND-AM 1520 in Cypress, Tex., from Pro Broadcasting.
The facility boasts critical hours power of 18kw from three towers due northwest of central Houston. During daylight hours, the station covers the entire metro. At night? The 1520 kHz signal of Tyler Media’s KOKC-AM in Oklahoma City, once the home of KOMA, barrels in.
As such, the FM translator at 99.9 MHz is likely of keen interest to El Sembrador, despite its current location in tiny Dilley, Tex.
With Dr. Mark Provenzano signing off on the transaction, ESNE is set to take over the stations, with Spanish-language evangelical programming on the way. Of late, it has been the home of programming originating in Beijing, China.
A license renewal must be approved by the FCC, as KYND’s current license expires on August 1.
El Sembrador is paying $725,000 for the AM; it is presently linked with an FM translator in Gilley, Tex., but that facility is not included in the transaction.
A $40,000 deposit has been made to the broker in this transaction, Sandi Bergman of Portales, N. Mex.
At closing, a $360,000 wire transfer will be paid. The remaining $325,000 will be represented in the form of a Promissory Note with 0% interest, payable in 48 monthly installments of $6,770.83.
