For many in Western New York, the WJYE call letters are very familiar, as “Joy 96” was once a player in the Buffalo market.

Today, the call letters can be found on a Class D AM in Maine, now under new ownership and offering a “fun” choice to local listeners.

MaineInvests LLC has formally closed on its $106,300 purchase of WJYE-AM 1280 in Gardiner, Me., from Blue Jey Broadcasting Co.

The deal includes FM translator W292FZ at 106.3 MHz.

MaineInvests is headed by President Lee L’Heureux, and with the ownership change comes a change in direction for WJYE and its translator.

A new locally oriented Oldies format is on WJYE, which is being branded as “FUN OLDIES 1280.” Tom Lawler is directing the programming.

WJYE is a Class D facility with 5kw during daylight hours and 40 watts at night, from 1 tower. Its service area is the Augusta-Gardiner, Me., market.
