Up by the Apalachicola River and on the southern shore of Dead Lakes is the tiny town of Wewahitchka, Fla., population 2,074 and growing. It’s east of Panama City and to the northeast of suddenly popular Mexico Beach, an Airbnb hub.
Then, there is Defuniak Springs, Fla., roughly 40 miles north of the Fort Walton Beach-Destin, Fla., area.
Two digital low-power TV stations licensed to these towns have attracted the attention of a buyer. The FCC’s approval awaits.
WWEO-LD in Defuniak Springs and sibling WEWA-LD in Wewahitchka are being purchased by Lisa Ann Johnson from Nichols Broadcasting Group.
The purchase price? Johnson is paying $400,000 for the LPTV pair, and a 5% deposit of $20,000 is being held by escrow agent Doyle Hadden of Hadden & Associates, which also served as the seller’s broker in this transaction.
The balance will be paid in cash at closing.
Johnson, who resides in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, heads “NEWCORP,” and her legal counsel in this deal is Frank Montero of Fletcher Heald & Hildreth.
