PORTLAND, ORE. — Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge, just east of this bursting-at-the-seams metropolis, has had its fair share of difficulties this year courtesy of Mother Nature.
On Thursday, prosecutors announced that they have filed reckless burning charges in the Eagle Creek fire. The accused: A 15-year-old boy. High burns in the gorge were seen just to the west of Hood River and Parkdale, where an FM translator rebroadcasting a Spanish-language LPFM has just been traded.
The sale price is less than the cost of a flight of beer at Breakside Brewery.
For $5 cash, K296GO at 107.1 MHz in Parkdale, Ore., is being transferred to Radio Tierra, an Oregon public benefit corporation, from Louis DeSitter.
The deal can be cancelled, however, should the FCC take longer than 9 months to OK the transaction.
Radio Tierra is headed by Gale Arnold, President of the Board of Directors for Hood River-based Radio Tierra.
The translator is being used to reach Parkdale, Odell and the village of Mt. Hood, up Highway 35 from the town of Hood River. It simulcasts 100-watt LPFM KZAS-95.1 in Hood River, which also can be heard on FM translators in Carson and Stevenson, Wash., and in The Dalles, Ore.
KZAS is best-described as a Full Service regional Mexican service targeting first-generation immigrants in the region approximately one hour east of the Willamette River and downtown Portland, where many radio stations from the metropolitan area cannot penetrate the mountainous terrain.
