TV On The Radio? No, But It’s Streaming

The Montréal-based owner of broadcast radio stations such as CHBM “Boom 97.3” in Toronto and a globally available streaming audio app overseen by CEO Rich Stern has struck a deal that brings audio from the free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channels linked to the eight ABC Owned Television Stations to the platform.

The agreement, announced Wednesday by Stingray, means TuneIn‘s news lineup now includes local news, weather, and “Localish” programming from New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, Fresno, Raleigh-Durham and Philadelphia to the app’s users.

“People have a real connection to their local news and often rely on these stations every day for community updates, weather, events, and more,” said Stern. “ABC has a strong presence in some of the biggest markets in the country, and bringing these stations to TuneIn gives listeners easy access to what’s happening in their communities wherever they are.”

The launch builds on TuneIn’s growing lineup of ABC and ESPN programming, as TuneIn earlier this year added the ABC News “20/20 True Crime” channel.
