The full Commission on Monday directed the Media Bureau to complete the processing of station renewal applications associated with five broadcast television flagged for potential rule noncompliance as it pertains to their educational and informational programming.
The move brings the stations, including a Univision Local Media property, one step closer to receiving a new license from the Commission. But the “why” behind the move is the biggest takeaway, as the FCC pointed to “significant regulatory change” and “significant operational change” seen between 2019 and 2023 for its decision to move forward with the license renewal completion process.
