Cumulus Media’s Vice President of Urban Formats, who doubles as Program Director of WQQK-FM “92Q” in Nashville, has parted ways with the radio broadcasting company poised to emerge from bankruptcy protection with a key equity holder behind newspaper owner Alden Global Capital.
Kenny Smoov has been associated with Cumulus for 23 years, 21 of them directly associated with 92Q.
As VP of Urban Formats since June 2019, Smoov oversaw Hip-Hop and R&B radio brands, along with station air personalities, across the U.S. It is a role that included signing off on programming hires in markets including Memphis and Shreveport, La. He also hosted The Kenny Smoov Morning Show until moving to middays in July 2025.
Media, content, consulting and entertainment opportunities are next on the agenda for Smoov, who will pursue them through his newly formed Nashville Brown LLC while saying he remains open to his next executive, programming, or media leadership opportunity.
Smoov said, “This has been an incredible chapter of my life and career, and I’m extremely proud of what we built, the people I’ve had the opportunity to work with, and the relationships I’ve developed both in Nashville and nationally over the past two decades. But I’m also excited about what comes next. I still have a lot of ideas, energy, and great work ahead of me.”
