The longtime commercially licensed radio stations owned by the University of Florida are gaining a new sales partner — one that also gains an avenue toward training the school’s journalism students.
A new arrangement with Saga Communications sees it assume advertising responsibilities for WRUF-AM & FM in September, assuming the role from Audacy Inc. It is a seven-year deal.
WRUF-AM, with an FM translator offering ESPN Radio programming to the market, is sibling to Country WRUF-FM, which offers Premiere Networks’ syndicated Bobby Bones Show in morning drive.
Audacy had enjoyed a sales arrangement with UFlorida since 2012.
For Saga, WRUF-AM & FM will be sold alongside WOGK “K-Country,” WOGK HD2 offering “The Outlaw,” and WNDD & WYND “Wind-FM” in the Gainesville-Ocala market.
For undergraduates, the agreement extends beyond ad sales into a collaborative relationship covering student learning, professional development, and industry innovation — including opportunities in broadcasting, media sales, digital media, audience development, sports media, content strategy, internships, and mentorship.
Saga President/CEO Chris Forgy commented, “This collaboration reflects Saga’s commitment to investing in our present and future by working with outstanding local media properties as well as investing in our next generation of media professionals.”
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Dean Hub Brown added, “This partnership represents a significant investment in the future of both public higher education and local media.”
For University of Florida Division of Media Properties Executive Director Randy Wright, “The combination of WRUF’s rich history, the University of Florida’s academic excellence, and Saga’s proven success in local broadcasting creates an exceptional opportunity for our students, our advertisers, and our listeners.”
