Learfield, a media and technology company bringing coverage of college athletics to radio station audiences across the U.S., has scored a strategic partnership with Adventure 33. The result is the creation of Prism, a distribution platform “built to power” Learfield’s terrestrial radio affiliates nationwide.
Prism is a cloud-based platform that advances the next generation of audio distribution, delivering “enhanced flexibility, efficiency and scalability” for Learfield’s 140+ school partners.
“Learfield invested in the development of Prism because we saw an opportunity to modernize audio distribution at scale and build a stronger foundation for the future—much as Clyde Lear did when he embraced satellite technology 50 years ago,” said Ben Blevins, Senior Director of Broadcast Technology & Engineering at Learfield. “This partnership will deliver greater flexibility, reliability and efficiency for our affiliates and our school partners, while setting a new standard for audio delivery across the broadcast industry.”
Learfield claims it will be the first large radio network to move beyond satellite distribution, a timely move given the coming Upper C-Band auction the FCC will be conducting within the next 12 months.
“Having directly supported the development of the transformative platform and industry solution, Learfield will implement the technology across several key properties and networks beginning this fall,” the company said.
For Adrian Berkovits, Founder and President of Adventure 33, Prism represents “a new blueprint for how audio moves, with impact that will reach far beyond college sports into the broadcast industry as a whole. This is the kind of shift our industry has been ready and waiting for. We’re proud to build that future with Learfield as our partner.”
