NEW YORK — There’s a pirate radio broadcast operation in the Midwood section of Brooklyn, and the FCC is going after the property owner after being unable to discern who the FM buccaneer is. Now, the landlord could be held culpable under the “PIRATE Act.”
At 88.7 MHz is an unlicensed FM station that Enforcement Bureau agents in October 2024, working out of the New York office, confirmed to be on the air after receiving a complaint.
Direction-finding techniques put the broadcast signal’s origin at 1917 Coney Island Avenue. And, the owners of the property are Z And N Enterprises Corp.
While they may have nothing to do directly with the pirate radio station, they own the property the signal is coming from. As such, they could be fined, and has 10 business days from May 2 to provide evidence the signal is squelched. The FCC also wants the name of the offender shared by the landlord.
The notice came from Dave Dombrowski, Regional Director of Region One of the FCC Enforcement Bureau.
