WASHINGTON, D.C. — As expected, the full House of Representatives has passed H.R. 2482, legislation that will reauthorize the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, giving it fixed appropriations for fiscal years 2025 and 2026.
The approval of the NTIA Reauthorization Act of 2025 by the House Energy & Commerce Committee, led by Chairman Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.), puts the NTIA one step closer to winning a proposed FY 2025 and FY 2026 budget of $57 million per year. To give a sense of how inflation and NTIA needs have changed in three decades, the FY 1993 appropriations total for NTIA was $17.9 million.
Some 15 other House E&C bills were approved in full floor votes on the House of Representatives. This includes the “Take it Down Act,” which requires covered platforms to remove nonconsensual intimate visual depictions, and for other purposes. The House voted 409-2 in favor of the legislation.
“Today, the House of Representatives, with overwhelming bipartisan support, passed legislation to reauthorize a key agency, secure American leadership in the coming years, provide more transparency in the pricing of certain goods, and finally provide real protections for Americans online from sexual exploitation,” said Guthrie. “This is an important day in our efforts to support and defend Americans in the digital age.”
