He currently anchors the afternoon and nighttime newscasts for TEGNA-owned WVEC-13, the ABC affiliate serving the Tidewater region of Virginia. Soon, he’ll be joining the company’s NBC affiliate in Atlanta to helm its weekend morning newscasts.

Heading to WXIA “11Alive” is Dan Kennedy.

“Dan has an impressive track record of impactful journalism that showcases his deep commitment to the communities he serves,” said Denisha Thomas, News Director at WXIA. “His ability to tell compelling stories—whether breaking news or personal moments—makes him the perfect fit for our team. We’re excited to have Dan’s passion for journalism and his dedication to delivering the news that matters most to metro Atlanta audiences.”

Kennedy previously worked as an anchor and reporter at WTVF-5 in Nashville and at WRCB-TV in his hometown of Chattanooga, Tenn. He commented, “I am beyond excited to join the talented team at 11Alive News and to call Atlanta home. I look forward to connecting with the community, earning their trust, and reporting the big stories with context and perspective. I grew up on the Tennessee-Georgia line rooting for the Dawgs and the Braves and traveling to Atlanta for games and concerts. My wife and I are excited to now raise a family here and experience what makes this city so great.”

Kennedy’s first day at WXIA is scheduled for January 27, 2025.
