Byrne Acquisition Group LLC has submitted paperwork with the FCC seeking its regulatory approval of its purchase of 1kw Class C WLSQ-AM 1240 in Loris, S.C., along with FM translator companion W294CW at 106.7 MHz.
Operating as “Q Rock!,” the AM and FM translator serve an area inland from Myrtle Beach, S.C., which is seeking new growth and homebuilding activity.
The seller is Banana Jack Murphy Productions, and it will gain $250,000 from the sale of the facilities.
There is no broker or finder associated with this transaction. Patrick Cross of Brooks Pierce served as the buyer’s legal counsel in this deal.
Byrne is known as the owner of WHII-TV, serving the Savannah DMA cities of Bluffton, Beaufort and Hilton Head, S.C., as a hyperlocal station focused on Beaufort County.
“Banana Jack Murphy,” not to be confused with the Jack Murphy who worked at KKLQ-FM in San Diego and WHTZ (Z100) in the 1980s before migrating to North Carolina, has been a part of the Myrtle Beach radio scene since relocating from Raleigh in 1989. He and his wife Barb have owned WLSQ since 2007, when it was known as WLSC “Tiger Radio.” The current format was launched in September 2023.
