While Lakeland and Winter Haven may get all of the attention, the Central Florida city of Bartow is the seat of Polk County. And, it is home to an AM radio station with an FM translator that has been devoting its time to serving Spanish-language audiences.
Could that be changing? The Class D AM with an FM translator audible along the U.S. 98 corridor between Interstate 4 and U.S. 60 has just been sold.
Prime Broadcasting Inc. is agreeing to part ways with WQXM-AM 1460 and W260DA at 99.9 MHz in Bartow, Fla., for $170,000.
The buyer is DRC Broadcasting Inc., led by sole shareholder Denisse Hernandez.
A Time Brokerage Agreement is in effect until closing. In fact, the TBA dates to March 30, 2023, and this means there will likely be no changes to the “Ritmo” programming heard on WQXM. Miami radio veteran Javier Romero’s syndicated morning show is the centerpiece of WQXM.
To make the deal happen, Hernandez is financing the entire purchase through a Promissory Note. Signing off on that is Prime President Aliuska Leiva Marti.
There is no broker or finder in this deal, which sees Frank Montero of Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth serve as the legal counsel for the seller.
