He holds a Ph.D. from UC Santa Cruz and has a mid-1990s Silicon Valley tech background. He also is the Chief Architect of open source SaaS data management storage system Ceph and is the co-founder of DreamHost Web Hosting. Since June 2022, this individual has also served as CEO of a radio station licensee that has put its stamp on liberal-leaning Talk programming in Wisconsin in just one year.

Now, Sage Weil is signing off on another asset purchase agreement for his Civic Media.

The stations were owned by the late Stephen Marks.

Park Falls Community Broadcasting Corporation is selling the licenses for Class D WPFP-AM and FM translator W276DJ, and 100kw WCQM-FM, in Park Falls, Wisc., to Civic Media.

Concurrently, WI-Radio Real Estate Park Falls LLC is selling the real estate and property associated with the stations.

Weil is paying $210,000 for the stations, which serve a rural area of Wisconsin two hours to the north of Wausau and have been tied to an ownership group fronted by Marks, a former Michigan Association of Broadcasters President, passed away in May 2022.

A $23,000 escrow deposit has been made to the seller, which is being held by Patrick Communications, the broker representing Park Falls. The seller’s representative in front of the FCC is Paige Fronabarger of Wilkinson Barker Knauer.

Civic Media’s legal counsel is Kathleen Victory of Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth.

While Weil is the 98.6% owner and CEO of Civic Media, its operations are directed by President Michael Crute, who holds 1.4% ownership in the company.
