The NAB and every national broadcast TV network detests it.
Yet, not-for-profit IP-television service Locast has just entered its thirtieth market of bringing over-the-air channels to consumers via the internet.
The latest locale to benefit from Locast, starting March 19, is Cleveland.
Specifically, the entire Cleveland-Akron-Canton DMA is now able to benefit from Locast’s donation-based services, which, in its view, are not subject to retransmission consent accords owing to its non-profit status.
As such, 17 Ohio counties can now get Cleveland free-to-air TV stations via Locast.
Among the stations to be available are:
- TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate WKYC-3 and its associated digital multicast channels
- The E.W. Scripps Co.’s ABC affiliate, WEWS-5, and its digital multicast offerings
- Nexstar-owned FOX affiliate WJW-8 and its digital multicast channels
- Gray Television’s CBS affiliated WOIO-19 and The CW Network WUAB-43
- The local Azteca América affiliate
- The ION Television affiliate
- WVIZ-25, the PBS Member station for Cleveland
- Non-affiliated WBNX-55 in Akron
- The local Univision affiliate
