ATLANTA — ¡Si, Señor!
Hispanic consumers across the U.S. who prefer to watch El Gran Juego on Sunday en español now have an option that doesn’t involve trying to follow CBS’s English-language commentary and analysis or fumbling around with a remote control in a vain attempt to get the secondary audio programming feature to work.
ESPN Deportes will deliver its own Spanish-language U.S. TV broadcast of Super Bowl LIII, with veteran play-by-play announcer Álvaro Martín teamed with former NFL kicker and Super Bowl champion Raúl Allegre as the in-game analyst. Joining them as the sideline reporter is John Sutcliffe.
It marks the second time ESPN Deportes will air a NFL championship match; it first did so with Super Bowl 50, as CBS opted to give the task of delivering Spanish-language coverage to another party.
Unlike NBC (with Telemundo) or FOX (with FOX Deportes), CBS does not have a Spanish-language media arm.
TV coverage from ESPN Deportes comes alongside ESPN Deportes Radio audio delivery of Super Bowl LIII, scheduled for Sunday (2/3) at 6:18pm Eastern.
Martín and Allegre are no newbies at covering the NFL championship game. This marks the 15th time they’ll cover the Big Game, as they’ve served as the main commentator team for ESPN’s coverage across Latin America since Super Bowl XXXIV.
Meanwhile, 2019 marks the fourth time ESPN Deportes Radio will serve as the national, Spanish-language radio home for the NFL championship. It’s a unique broadcast and not a simulcast of what is on ESPN Deportes’ TV feed. Kenneth Garay will serve as the play-by-play man; Sebastian Martínez Christensen will provide analysis.
While the actual game does not start until after 6pm Eastern, the Super Bowl LIII television slate begins for ESPN Deportes at 2pm with shoulder programming and concludes with the 11pm ET edition of SportsCenter.
This year’s championship features the New England Patriots, led by superstar Quarterback Tom Brady, facing the Los Angeles Rams.
