Nestled between Virginia Tech and the Tri-Cities of Bristol, Kingsport and Johnson City, Tenn., is a 3,700-watt FM station branded as “The Bull.”
It may have a different ride ahead, as its owner has just sold the facility.
In other TRANSACTIONS TODAY: Vic Michael is buying again.
In fact, it is poised to be the newest member of the Bristol Broadcasting Co. family, as T.E.C.O. Broadcasting is selling WZVA-FM 103.5 in Marion, Va.
Bristol is led by Lisa Nininger Bouldin, who serves as President and the 100% equity holder in a company with co-directors William Hagy and Roger Bouldin.
A Time Brokerage Agreement has been forged that allows Bristol to assume control of WZVA prior to closing.
With WZVA, Bristol will enjoy a four-station cluster in Marion, as it already owns WSNQ-AM, WUKZ-AM & WMEV-FM.
Bristol owns some 27 radio stations across the Appalachians, and are located in Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky.
For T.E.C.O., the sale of WZVA leaves it with its recently acquired WOLD.
With call letters made famous by a Harry Chapin song (he wasn’t referring to this station), WOLD-FM 102.5 in Marion was acquired by T.E.C.O. in November 2017 — along with WZVA — from CDM Broadcasting.
How much did T.E.C.O. spend for the duo? T.E.C.O., wholly owned by Thomas Copenhaver, engaged in a broker-free transaction that calls for payment via Promissory Note, valued at $651,039, back-dated to Feb. 1, 2017.
T.E.C.O. is now spinning WZVA to Bristol for $200,000. A $25,000 earnest money deposit has been made, with the remainder payable in cash at closing.
There is no broker involved in this transaction.
VIC MICHAEL BUYS AGAIN
From Maui to the Rocky Mountains and down to Arizona, Vic Michael has been an active buyer and seller of radio station of both the low-power and full-power variety.
Now, his Cedar Cove Broadcasting is purchasing Class A noncommercial KKGT-FM 91.9 in Grants, N. Mexico, from Community Media Inc. for $30,000.
A $20,000 closing payment is due, as a $10,000 escrow deposit has been made.
Michael is also picking up a verbal agreement with tower site owner Larry Rogers that will continue a $300 per month tower rental plan.
Serving as broker, representing the seller, is Clifton Gardiner & Co.
Community Media is led by Derek Underhill.
Until now, KKGT has been offering the Jennifer Smart Foundation’s noncommercial JENNiRADIO, billed as “radio for kids … by kids.” That is poised to continue — on KJNI-LPFM 101.7 in Lake Elsinore, Calif. — the host station of “JENNiRADIO.”
