What do The Knack, Mungo Jerry, Violent Femmes, Smash Mouth and legendary Canadian pianist Oscar Peterson have in common?
They were all played within the same half hour on a Thursday afternoon at WWFD-AM 820 in Frederick, Md., a quirky freeform operation with a growing cult-like audience across the Washington, DC market.
In response to the station’s increasing popularity, parent Hubbard Radio is acquiring an second FM translator for an operation that – based on its playlist – is appropriately named “The Gamut.”
For $72,500, Hubbard is acquiring W225AQ, at 92.5 MHz in Lock Haven, Pa., from Family Life Ministries.
Griffin Media Brokers is the exclusive broker in this transaction, and they are receiving an escrow deposit from Hubbard in the amount of $14,500.
The balance will be paid at closing, at which time W225AQ will have completed its relocation to Frederick from Lock Haven, located between Williamsport and State College some 180 miles to the north of the Maryland municipality that is quickly becoming a Washington, DC bedroom community.
“The Gamut” is also heard on WTOP-FM 103.5’s HD3 subcarrier, and on W283CD, a translator at 104.5 MHz in Sterling, Va., that has a Construction Permit allowing for a relocation to 93.5 MHz and a move of its tower to downtown Wheaton, Md.
This move will give “The Gamut” coverage of nearly all of affluent Montgomery County, Md., and much of Northwest and Northeast D.C.
