The Epperson family is mainly known for its ties to leading religious radio group Salem Communications, but they are also involved with their own commercial group and a non-profit group as well. The latter, The River Educational Media Inc., headed by Nancy A. Epperson, Stuart W. Epperson Jr., has just closed on its acquisition of WJBC-FM Fernandina Beach FL, serving the Jacksonville market.
According to broker Greg Guy of Patrick Communications, who represented seller West Jacksonville Baptist Church Inc., the price was $2.25M cash.
The station operates on 91.7 MHz and will join a local noncommercial cluster that also includes WCRJ-FM and WAYL-FM. Additionally, Epperson’s Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting owns commercial WBOB-AM in the market.
