BETWith a growing public spotlight on the case of a black teen who was shot to death by a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, FL – even President Barack Obama weighed in on Friday – BET has scheduled a special report for broadcast on Monday (3/26). The network calls it “a tragically familiar narrative in black America, and every African-American parent’s worst nightmare.”

Hosted by Emmett Miller, the BET News Special: “Shoot First: The Tragedy of Trayvon Martin” will deconstruct the key elements of the case and through first-hand accounts and will present what BET says is the full story directly from the Martin family and neighborhood witnesses.

Premiering Monday, March 26 at 7:30 pm ET, the half-hour BET News special will report on all of the elements that lead this case to national attention – although not until weeks after the 17-year-old high school student was killed. BET News says the special will trace the story from when it first made headlines to the rallies that mobilized folks to the streets wearing hooded sweatshirts in honor of Trayvon and demanding justice.

BET News will report on new developments in the case, including the three pending investigations and the fast-growing online petition to have the shooter, George Zimmerman, arrested. Sister network CENTRIC will re-air the special on Monday, March 26 at 8:00 pm ET.
