NBC“This is not how I expected to leave this couch after 15 years,” said Curry, welling up while making the announcement on the Today show 6/28. Curry announced she will be taking on a new role as NBC News National and International Correspondent/Anchor and “Today” Anchor at Large. Her new expanded assignment is effective immediately and also includes a long-term deal with NBC News.

“I will still be a part of the TODAY show family but I’m going to have a new title and a new role,” Curry said on this morning’s broadcast. “I am so grateful, especially to all of you who watch because Matt and I and everyone who sits on this couch, we often call ourselves a family,” she said. “They’re giving me some fancy new titles which essentially means that I’m going to get tickets to every big story we want to cover with a terrific team of my choosing… I love all of you, especially all of you who are behind the scenes, behind the cameras.”

In her new role, Curry will report for all platforms of NBC News including “Today,” “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams,” “Rock Center with Brian Williams,” “Dateline,” MSNBC, and she will have a major presence across all digital properties. A newly created NBC News multi-person unit will be dedicated to cultivating and producing each of Curry’s stories and will work closely with all of the news division’s franchises. Curry will also serve as anchor for multiple NBC News primetime specials.

Curry has been a member of the “Today” family for more than 15 years. She served as co-anchor of the broadcast from June 2011 to June 2012, and as news anchor from March 1997 to June 2011. Curry also served as anchor of “Dateline NBC” from May 2005 until September 2011. She regularly substitute anchors for “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” and reports for “Rock Center with Brian Williams.”

  1. This is a sad day for American television. The reassignment of Ann Curry, one the most heartfelt and real co-anchors the Today Show has ever had, is a travesty. We deserve to know why this is happening. One is forced to doubt the decision-making ability of NBC, and whether they will manage to hold on for dear life.

Such are the bitter affairs of watching our heroes go up in flames…

  2. Dear NBC:

I will not be seeing the Today Show any longer. Ann Curry was such an asset to your show. Have you ever stopped to think that Matt Lauer might be the problem. He is an old balding unattractive man. I will go 100% with Good Morning America. I don’t need to start my morning with a bunch of stiffs like Savannah, Matt and Katie Lee. I know allot of people will see things my way.

    Good Luck,

  3. Yep. Ann got to keep her job when Stone Phillips got the boot in a massive cost-cutting move. She got his job, too. Ann’s able to hold down several jobs/titles at the same. Guess that makes her a better investment.

  4. Although I was not 100% enthralled by Ms. Curry she was welcome in my home every morning. Ms. Guthrie, although I’m sure a very nice person, is not as welcomed a guest. I’m sorry that after 30+ years of wakeing to “Today” we will now be watching “Good Morning America.”

  5. Unfortunately, with your decision to eliminate Ann Curry, you have lost more viewers than you gained. Your choice of Savannah Guthrie was unfortunate. Her voice is irritating to our ears and she must have been behind the “eight ball” when personality was handed out.

We have been avid Today Show watchers since our retirement – 16 years ago – but we will now be an additional statistic for ABC and will enjoy Amy Robach over there. She is another of the good people that got away from you!
