Silent AM’s Proposed Diplex Move Draws Scrutiny From FCC

On November 20, 2020, the station ceased operations under Special Temporary Authority with the FCC, as Buddy Tucker, aged 90, decided to retire. It ended up in the hands of the Dave Miniard-controlled UM Enterprise; a late 2022 agreement to sell the AM near Mobile, Ala., was never consummated.


Now silent under Special Temporary Authority, UM has asked the FCC to move the station. For this to be considered, the Assistant Chief of the Media Bureau’s Audio Division wants further evidence that such a move “constitutes a preferential arrangement of allotments.”
