For some, Canada is an alternate universe version of the United States. Cash feels more like Monopoly money than the good ‘ol greenback. Figuring out what a gallon of gas costs requires a mathematician thanks to the Metric System. Classic Boney M disco tracks from the 1970s remain popular at weddings, as one can hear a Robbie Williams track emanating from a downtown café on a busy Saturday.

Perhaps the biggest eye-opener seen across a weekend in Toronto, however, is how Radio is consumed and markets itself. With fierce competition for ears and an even more challenging economic environment for AM and FM than in the U.S., advertising exists. Uber and Lyft drivers are tuned to broadcast radio. Why is this place different from the Lower 48?
