‘Tamron Hall’ Shifts With New ABC O&O Local Newscast

As of today, the 10am hour for the ABC Owned Television Stations serving New York, Philadelphia and Raleigh-Durham has been home to the Disney Entertainment Television-syndicated television show hosted by Tamron Hall.

Now, even with what the ABC team calls “record-breaking season four ratings,” Hall’s show is moving to a timeslot where another talk host has enjoyed success and is now concluding her program.

That move for Hall makes way for more local news.

New 10am hourlong local newscasts will come September 11 to WABC-7 in New York, WPVI-6 in Philadelphia and WTVD-11 in Raleigh-Durham. That is because “Tamron Hall” is taking over the 2 p.m. time slot in those markets, aligning her with the other ABC Owned Television Stations’ afternoon programming.

In New York and in Philadelphia, “Tamron Hall” will replace “The Rachael Ray Show.” Ray recently announced that she will be ending her show’s long-time run; the decision came with the launch of Ray’s production company, Free Food Studios. For WTVD viewers, this aligns the airing of Hall’s eponymous hour-long program with Hearst Television’s NBC-affiliated WXII-12 in Greensboro, which can be seen over-the-air in parts of the Raleigh DMA.

For ABC, moving Hall to Ray’s now-former time slot presented an opportunity. And, a company spokesperson calls the shift from 10am to 2pm in the three markets “an upgrade.”

“Tamron has had an exceptional year, and I know this move will grow her incredibly passionate Tam Fam even more,” said Chad Matthews, President of ABC Owned Television Stations. “The addition of local news programming at 10am will allow us to dig even deeper into the topics and events that showcase our local communities and the issues most impacting them, as well as extend and expand upon breaking news and topics being discussed on ‘Good Morning America’ and ‘Live with Kelly and Mark.’”

Who will anchor the new 10am newscasts at the respective stations?

For WABC-7, co-anchors Shirleen Allicot and Mike Marza, who was recently promoted from “Eyewitness News Weekends” in the wake of veteran anchor Ken Rosato’s dismissal for comments made about Allicot on a “hot mic,” will take on the additional 10am duties.

At “6abc,” news anchors Alicia Vitarelli, Alyana Gomez and Nydia Han will host “Action News at 10 a.m.”

For “ABC11,” WTVD “Eyewitness News” at 10am will be led by John Clark and Barbara Gibbs.
