Rosenworcel Defends FCC’s Current Broadcast Owner Limits

On Tuesday afternoon, the FCC formally revealed what was leaked to Washington, D.C., insiders unofficially on Friday — on a 3-2 party-line vote, the 2018 Quadrennial Rule Order was approved.


For radio, there’s hardly any changes of note. For TV, there’s a tightening — not loosening — of the rules regarding the “Top Four” station regulatory policy, essentially closing a loophole that would allow a company to use digital multicasts or low-power TV stations to skirt the duopoly rule pertaining to full-power TV stations.

Sharing her thoughts on why no rule “modernization,” as predecessor Ajit Pai put it during his term, is taking place is Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel.
