She has served as the interim general manager for a FOX affiliate serving Huntsville, Ala., since the retirement of Larry Audas earlier this year. Now, TEGNA has given her permanent President/GM responsibilities for the “Rocket City” station.

This makes Carrie Yates officially responsible for overseeing the operations for WZDX-TV in Huntsville, Ala.

It’s her first leadership role, after serving in key sales roles serving clients at Gray Media-owned WSFA-12 in Montgomery, Ala., and that company’s WAFF-48 in Huntsville before joining WZDX in 2020.

Yates has also served as National Sales Manager at Gray-owned WALA-10 in Mobile and for Nexstar’s WFNA-TV, serving Mobile and Pensacola, Fla.

TEGNA SVP/Media Operations Paul Trelstad said, “Carrie’s extensive experience as a sales leader and business strategist, combined with her deep understanding of the Alabama market, uniquely positions her to lead the WZDX team and serve the Huntsville community.”

Yates added, “I’m thrilled to continue my work with TEGNA in Huntsville—a city I’m proud to call home with my family. My commitment to our community, dedicated employees, and valued advertisers has never been stronger. Huntsville is thriving, and I’m eager to help serve and drive innovation at the station and across the market.”
