Ex-Entravision CFO Takes Similar Role At The Weather Channel

He most recently served as Chief Financial Officer for Entravision Communications, the multimedia company rooted in U.S. Hispanic media that’s expanded its holdings to become a global digital advertising solutions entity. Now, he’s taken a similar role at one of the business units of Allen Media Group.

The Weather Channel is welcoming Christopher Young as CFO. He succeeds the now-retired Bill Higgs, and will also serve as EVP of AMG, the parent company of Weather Group led by founder Byron Allen, under AMG EVP/CFO Christopher Malone.

Young will be based at both the AMG headquarters in Los Angeles and The Weather Channel campus in Atlanta, reporting directly to Byron Allen.

Young spent 16 years at Entravision, until his separation from the company in May of this year. General Counsel Mark Boelke assumed his Treasurer/CFO role, a move that saved the company some $600,000 in salary and additional benefits. Young’s departure was seen as part of a cost reduction initiative needed in the wake of a loss of significant revenue associated with Meta‘s ASP wind-down; that decision impacted more than half of Entravision’s dollar generation.

Prior to his time at Entravision, Young served as President of Los Angeles-based outdoor advertising company Vista Media, holding the role from 2004 until 2008. From 2000 to 2004, Young served as Vista Media’s CFO. Before that, Mr. Young worked with the Bank of Montreal (BMO), where he was responsible for all of the bank’s corporate finance activities for the broadcasting and outdoor advertising industries.

Young’s additional prior experience includes positions at the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, and Chase Manhattan Bank.

Byron Allen commented, “We are very excited to have Christopher Young join Allen Media Group. Chris brings extensive finance and operational experience in the media industry spanning over three decades. His strong expertise and tenured capital markets background are valuable assets. Chris adds great depth to our executive leadership team, and he will be instrumental to our business as we continue to grow rapidly and execute on a number of long-term strategic initiatives.”

Young added, “I have been following Allen Media Group’s growth for years and I’m thoroughly impressed with what Byron and his talented executive team have accomplished. Simply put, because of their vision, drive, and discipline, Allen Media Group consistently outperforms the industry. I look forward to working with the Allen Media Group team to help execute our continued growth and long-term strategies.”
