The Media Deal Makers’ Summertime Blues
It's awfully quiet out there in Deal City and Transactions Town. What gives? According to one key industry observer, everybody's waiting ... and eyeing the radio business' three biggies. This insider also sheds some light on the overall atmosphere for buyers and sellers, and if any talk about Townsquare Media selling stations is just folly.
Redwood Spins A CBS Affiliate To A ‘Prime’ Buyer
On Wednesday, RBR+TVBR's TRANSACTIONS TODAY detailed the sale of NBC affiliated KIEM-3 in Eureka-Arcata, Calif., to an entity tied to Northwest Broadcasting. To make the deal happen, it had to spin the other station it owned in this small Northern California market. That transaction has just been finalized, and a Form 314 has been submitted to the FCC.
A Deal Craters In Southwest Alabama
In January 2007, WNKU Radio Inc. filed a Form 314 application with the FCC to acquire a Class A FM station serving a rural corner of southwestern Alabama. The Commission gave its nod on March 3, but more than a decade later it has been found unable to pay a sizable amount due to the seller. As a result, it is relinquishing the facility, and it's the top deal in RBR+TVBR's TRANSACTIONS TODAY.
Golden State Noncomms Trade Hands
Two Class B noncommercial FMs in a remote region of California are trading hands. There's "Living Proof" of this deal in the form of a Form 314 filing made with the Commission on Tuesday (8/22), and it's the lone transaction in RBR+TVBR's TRANSACTIONS TODAY on yet another quiet day for deals.
Frank Osborn Buys An FM Translator
Here's a deal that sounds like an unsuspecting scenario in the far north of Alaska: A husky is buying a property from a penguin. However, this story brings us to Chelan County, Washington, where an FM translator is going to a veteran former radio station owner. It's the Deal of the Day for RBR+TVBR's TRANSACTIONS TODAY for Monday, Aug. 21.
Mining Rights Assigned To New Owner For Golden State AM
A Class B AM station serving a city along California's Central Coast is being sold to a mining corporation. It's the lead item in RBR+TVBR's TRANSACTIONS TODAY for Friday, Aug. 18, which also features the spin of an FM translator in Jacksonville, Fla.
A Big Island’s ESPN Twins Find God
Among the many stations simulcasting on the island of Hawai'i are a pair of AMs that have served as the local ESPN Radio affiliate. These stations are now being donated by the Chuck Bergson-led Pacific Media Group, and the recipient is a religious non-profit based in the Aloha State. It's the lone deal on yet another quiet day for RBR+TVBR's TRANSACTIONS TODAY.
A Big Sale For Maine’s ‘Big Hits’ FM
A Class A facility at 99.3 MHz has been on the air since 1959, and is the only commercial radio station located in Franklin County, Maine. This station is now trading hands, and the buyer is a local entity. It's the lone deal featured in TRANSACTIONS TODAY for Wednesday, Aug. 16.
Another Groggy Day For Dealmaking
Have media brokers hit the snooze bar a few too many times this month? August is shaping up to be a scarily quiet month for deal makers. In today's installment of RBR+TVBR's TRANSACTIONS TODAY, two translator swaps take top billing. It continues a trend of small deals seen as Capitol Hill — and many Inside the Beltway — wrap up their summer holidays this week.
A Lazer-Focused Price For A Reno Trio
Nearly two weeks ago, RBR+TVBR reported that the Alfredo Plascencia-led Lazer Broadcasting is obtaining three radio stations in the Silver State's second-largest market from Times-Shamrock Communications. Thanks to the filing of a Form 314 with the FCC today, we now know the sticker price of this deal.
Almavision Sells A Silent Silver State Noncomm
The licensee of three low-power TV facilities, two of which are primarily used for radio broadcasts at 87.7 MHz in Miami, is selling its lone officially licensed FM radio station. It's located in a rural part of northern Nevada, and it's the top deal in RBR+TVBR's TRANSACTIONS TODAY for Friday, Aug. 11, 2017.
Rosebud Slides In As New KINI Owner
Film buffs know "Rosebud" as the sled made famous in the cinematic classic Citizen Kane. But, there's another Rosebud that many people don't know about: the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of the Rosebud Indian Reservation in south-central South Dakota. It hugs the state line with Nebraska, and that's where we find the lone deal featured in RBR+TVBR's TRANSACTIONS TODAY for Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017.
Bill Binnie Buys A Granite State FM
A Class A facility reaching the cities of Concord and Manchester, N.H., is trading hands. The buyer is a company that scored a $68 million payday by relinquishing the spectrum of a TV station in the Boston DMA. This is the lone deal in RBR+TVBR's TRANSACTIONS TODAY for Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017.
A West Virginia Combo Moves In A ‘Priority’ Sale
The sale of an AM/FM combo and a pair of translators in a city sandwiched between Ohio and Pennsylvania has just been struck. It's indeed a "Priority" deal — that's the name of the seller.
A Community AM In Delmarva Trades Hands
In Salisbury, Md., a Class D facility with 1kw daytime and just 28 watts at night from 1 tower is being sold. If the call letters sound familiar, it's because an FM that shares this call sign was sold in an unrelated transaction just four months ago. This deal is the lone offering in RBR+TVBR's TRANSACTIONS TODAY for Friday, Aug. 4.
