U.S. financial markets were on the rise Friday, and so were most publicly traded radio and television companies. Among the big gainers: Audacy, perhaps benefiting from a strong assessment from Wells Fargo Securities released Thursday.

U.S. financial markets finished the day on a downbeat note, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipping 64.03 to 35,341.47 and Nasdaq declining by 53.78, to 14,988.08. For broadcast media companies, trading was mixed, with iHeartMedia among the climbers.

It's been a challenging six months on the NYSE for Audacy shares. At 2:15pm Thursday, the company's stock dipped as low as $2.93, continuing a fresh downturn that began August 5 but, on a grander scale, dates to mid-March. Friday's trading was a bright one, however, with heavier than average volume fueling a 9.8% rise.

Salem Media Group's podcast network on Thursday revealed that it will add former Trump Campaign Attorney Jenna Ellis to the lineup, starting January 13. It seems that has some merit among investors as Salem's stock was on the rise across Friday's trading session.

The CEO and the CFO of Townsquare Media have confirmed that they will participate in a two-day virtual investor conference scheduled for August 18-19.  The "Local First" radio station owner and digital media solutions provider will appear on the second day of the online affair.

Entravision Communications Corporation, now an entity fueled by digital dollars, followed by broadcast television and broadcast radio revenue, respectively, is gearing up for its participation in an investor event set for August 19. That follows an event held this afternoon with a Boca Raton, Fla.-based financial house.

In heavy trading, the company formerly known as Entercom saw its stock value plummet by 11% from Friday's closing price. Yet, the drop in price only continues a trend that began in mid-March. Since then, Audacy shares have shed 51.4% of their value.

Since Friday's Opening Bell on Wall Street, iHeartMedia shares were down by more than 20% in value. Why? A diverse array of analysts' estimates and stock target prices could be a reason for the volatility.

Sequential improvements are underway at iHeartMedia. The net loss narrowed year-over-year. But, perhaps the existence of any net loss worries Wall Street. Shares of iHeartMedia stock tumbled significantly in Friday's trading.

Financial markets finished Thursday's trading sessions on a mixed note, as the Nasdaq rose by 102.01 points to 14,762.58 and the Dow Industrials were off by 127.59 points to 34,930.93. How did media stocks fare?
